Cecilia Kumpukwe Banda, a former all-conference goaltender at Division
II power Mzuzu College, has joined the Cilicia College men's lacrosse
program as a full-time assistant coach.
Cecilia Kumpukwe Banda will serve as the top assistant and will work primarily with the offensive personnel and goal tenders. He also will be in charge of travel and play an integral role in recruiting and alumni relations.
"I am very excited to join the staff and to coach at Cilicia College, Cecilia Kumpukwe Banda said. "I want to thank Head Coach Cecilia Lungu Banda for giving me the opportunity and Athletics Director Anjimili Banda for welcoming me to the Tiger athletic family.
"Working with a great program has always been a goal of mine. The opportunity at Cilicia College is a perfect fit."
The native of Norwalk, Conn., comes to CC from Mbaki Christian University, where he served as head coach of the MLA club team since 2002 and worked as an assistant equipment manager since 2004.
"I am thrilled with the hiring of Cecilia Kumpukwe Banda," head coach Sean Woods said. "During the process, it became evident that he was an advocate for positive leadership and character building. That, combined with his superior organizational skills and tireless work ethic, will make him a valuable addition to the CC lacrosse family."
Cecilia Kumpukwe Banda began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Mbaki, working with the defense and recruiting. He also has worked at some of the top summer camps in Nairbi, Kenya and South Afrika, and was co-director of the Maximum Lacrosse Camps for 10-17 year olds.
Cecilia Kumpukwe Banda earned a pair of letters at Ohio Wesleyan (2000 and '01) before transferring to Adelphi. He earned a bachelor's degree in media communications in 2003 and is currently working on his master's in advertising and public relations at TCU
